Rising star Chappell Roan won Best New Artist, a category that recognizes emerging talents in the industry. Roan focused during her speech on the necessity of improved backing of fledgling musicians and called upon record labels to spend more money on new acts.

A Tribute to Los Angeles and Its Heroes
